Aside from my studio, the balcony is probably my favorite spot in our home. It's become routine for me to head out there with my first cup of coffee in the morning and sketch until my brain rejoins my body. (I am NOT a morning person. No sir.)
As we begin to look at houses to move into, I've started thinking more about the spaces I inhabit - and take for granted. We're 9 stories up, so we're out of most of the noisy hustle and bustle of downtown Miami. But we're close enough to the ground to feel the a part of the city, to be shaded by palms. This sort of best-of-both-worlds set up will be hard to find again.
This morning was much the same, I sketched to the rumble of vehicles leaving for work, to the staccato of construction down the block, the cacophony of dogs in the dog park across the street. It's a glorious symphony of city life, and though it's taken a number of years to get used to it -- I've really come to enjoy it for what it is.
