Ellen Sherman’s work begins as whole paintings that she cuts apart and reassembles, fragment by fragment, into new collective forms.

Built on canvas, paper, and wood cut with a jigsaw, each piece is composed so that its parts act on one another; aligning, intensifying, or overtaking until a coherence emerges.

The work spans a range from minimalist, organic configurations to densely layered compositions, each one carrying the visible seams and marks of its making.
