Happy 2020!
Happy 2020!!
I hope this new year greets you with warmth and many fun creative endeavors on the horizon.
I’m taking a few more days off to see family, work on house projects, eat too much food and paint without a goal. The shop and commissions will reopen on January 6th.
In the meantime, I thought I might share a few of the goals/focuses I have set for 2020.
Every year on the 1st I take some time to myself to brainstorm my hopes and dreams for the coming year and to dig into the numbers from the year past. I do this partially to just stay organized - but also to make sure I spend the first day of the new year in a headspace that will influence how the next 365 days are experienced.
I divide these into ‘goals’ which have a concrete, measurable way to determine if I have achieved them or not, and ‘hopes’ which are judged by more feelings/emotions.
Goals for 2020 //
I want to update/rearrange our office area - end of January.
Right now our office feels very thrown together, because it was, and it just doesn’t give off any productive vibes. I’m looking to foster a more professional environment in this space.
I’ve got fun activities/contests/giveaways planned for the subscriber list for the majority of the year, and I’m just excited to grow a smaller more personal community via the newsletter.
Apply to 50% more shows and events throughout the year.
I am thrilled I was able to be a part of so many shows last year, and I’m looking for a bit more of a challenge for 2020. For every show I apply to, I’m going to find one more.
Spend 1 day every month photographing and cataloging new work.
This is a big one. I love the creation aspect of my work - not necessarily the business part. But I can’t have one without the other, so setting aside real time to photograph and add work to my site would be immensely helpful.
Build basement studio - Spring 2020/
I’d love to have a bit more space for multiple projects, large work or a group painting session. We have a space in our very, very unfinished basement that would be perfect for this - I just need to get to work painting and building walls.
Hopes for 2020 //
More house progress!
Learn basic woodworking
Stay on top of short-term goals and emails.
So happy 2020 again, thank you all for being here and best wishes for an amazing year!!
Colors of Colorado (and Happy New Year!)
Happy New Year friends!
We decided to head out to Colorado to ring in the New Year, as we have friends who live in that beautiful state and I was hoping to spend some wintery moments outside, soaking in the mountain air and scenery.
With that in mind I packed a small bag of travel art supplies (enough to sketch with, but not much more) hoping to get some time to process the colors and rhythms of the mountains in my sketchbook.
There was so much blue and yellow, various shades and various and various hues. I took several little hikes when time allowed and tried to document what I could.
I made a few color studies while out in the wild which was the best start I could have envisioned for the first day of 2019.
Hope you all have a wonderful, warm and peaceful start to this new year. Much love to you all!
—Update—
Now that we’re back home, I can share the paintings made from those studies!
These are the first two that will be available during my month-long show at Miss Kim in Ann Arbor coming in March (more info to follow!) for purchase and on display. To purchase ahead of the show send me a message and I’ll get you more information.
Happy 2018!
Happy 2018 friends.
Just wanted to check-in briefly here to officially reopen my commission page for 2018, talk about a few changes you might see in this space. (And to say “hello!”It’s been awhile!) Hope you all had a warm holiday season and a great start to the new year!
On the subject of commissions; my studio is back up and running in this beautiful new space, recharged and revitalized from the time off. To get started on a project, you can either email me here, or fill out the form here. Projects are being scheduled for February-April currently, so let me know if you have a rush deadline.
Regarding changes; I’m in the middle of a site overhaul. (Finally!) Tending to my web presence hasn’t been top of my list for the last few months, with shows and holidays orders demanding most of my time. Now that I’ve got a pretty good handle on my winter schedule I’ve been able to devote some time to update my available work and redesign the flow of my site. I’m hoping to having it completed soon - sign up for my newsletter to get word of the official relaunch.
In other news, my Instagram following just passed 30k - a very nice little surprise to start off the year. What began as a personal, journaled approach to my art practice has morphed into a space I couldn’t have imagined. I’ve made lifelong friends, been a part of some truly fantastic projects and have found a wonderful community of artists and collectors to connect with. If you follow me over there, thanks so much for coming along for the ride - it’s been such a pleasure to share my process with you <3
Cheers to 2018!
