On view at The Newton of Ypsilanti;
The Newton of Ypsilanti is a historic bed and breakfast 3 blocks from the heart of downtown.
Fostering community and comfort through delicious hand made food and sharing local art and architecture - the Newton is place of peace, beauty and full bellies.
I was so thrilled to be asked to show work through Aligned Exhibits in this beautiful space, and will have several selected pieces from this series up until late July.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions on the work.
About the Work:
In the series Surroundings Studies, Ellen used a very pared down palette influenced by the colors of her space. Applied with sweeping broad strokes, the heavily thinned acrylic paint was allowed to move and dry with varying translucencies, uncontrolled. Layered on top she made contour sketches from life around her studio; plants, the footsteps of wildlife and other critters out her window, tree bark and stacks of paintings. A controlled study of her surroundings.
